Our Global curriculum creates awareness and appreciation of the globalised society we live in through the teaching of History, Geography, Religious Education and Languages. We ensure that knowledge and skills within the national curriculum are used as a starting point to plan learning for our pupils, taking into account their medical conditions and mental health needs. The Global curriculum supports intercultural understanding and encourages pupils to learn about and engage with other cultures at a local, regional, national and international level in order to help them be open-minded global citizens. Through our Global curriculum, pupils are taught to have respect for each other, their cultures and religions.
Languages
Our Languages curriculum focuses on developing knowledge and skills within the Languages National Curriculum. The aims of our Languages curriculum are to improve pupil knowledge of a variety of spoken and written language, and aim to clearly communicate ideas in speech and writing with increased spontaneity, independence and accuracy, thus preparing them for further study, developing key skills for the workplace and enabling them to communicate with people beyond their current lived experience. This will allow pupils to effectively expand their vocabulary, use target language sounds with increasing accuracy and use a range of grammatical structures, which may include justified opinions and references to past, present and future events.

The Teaching of Languages across the Key Stages
KS2
The aim of the KS2 Languages curriculum is to develop pupils’ knowledge of the language and cultures ofthe Spanish-speaking world. We encourage pupils to understand key vocabulary on a range of topics which provide them with the tools to produce written and spoken language.
KS3-KS4
Our French and Spanish curricula are based on commonly taught topics at Key Stage 3 and include a range of Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing tasks.

History
Our History curriculum focuses on developing knowledge and skills within the History National Curriculum. The aims of our History curriculum are to develop pupils’ understanding of the chronological framework of history through studying topics from a range of eras and countries. Our History curriculum allows pupils to understand the process of change, to see how we arrived ‘here’ and help them to make sense of the present. Historical events help pupils to construct arguments and support them to become analytical citizens who can question human motivation and society with skill and confidence.

EYFS
Children are taught Understanding the World through cross curricular themes. This provides opportunities to support and develop their subject specific knowledge while simultaneously placing this geographical learning in the context of a wider cross-curriculum topic.
KS1-2
We teach History through cross-curricular themes which are centred around the National Curriculum objectives and programmes of study.
KS3- KS4
The History curriculum explores significant events in Britain and the wider world. Our History curriculum covers a variety of engaging themes and aims to deepen pupils’ understanding of concepts such as understanding cause and effect, change and continuity, the significance of a historical event and analysing and evaluating evidence.

Geography
Our Geography curriculum focuses on developing knowledge and skills within the Geography National Curriculum. The aims of our Geography curriculum are to improve pupils’ knowledge of human and physical geographical processes that impact the world around us. Geography will develop an understanding of the challenges that shape our environment now and in the future. This knowledge and understanding will enable students to gain confidence in their ability to succeed in an ever-changing world.

Religious Education
RE Curriculum Principles
Our Religious Education curriculum focuses on developing knowledge and skills within the Manchester, Salford, Stockport, Tameside and Trafford Standing Advisory Council on Religious Education’s (SACRE) agreed syllabus. There are three key strands which are the foundation of our topics: believing, expressing and living. Religious Education helps to develop responsibility and respect for all aspects of diversity, whether it be social, cultural and religious, and prepare pupils for life in modern Britain.

Teaching RE Across the Key Stages
EYFS
Children are taught Understanding the World cross curricular topics which provides opportunities to support and develop knowledge while simultaneously placing this learning in the context of a wider cross-curriculum topic.
KS1-2
Children are taught Religious Education through one key question per half term, giving them the opportunity to support and develop their subject specific knowledge and understanding of the world.
KS3- KS4
The RE curriculum covers a variety of engaging themes giving pupils the opportunity to ask questions about the world around them, challenge perspectives, question actions and intolerance. Our curriculum provides opportunities for the development of personal viewpoints, encouraging students to articulate and respect a range of opinions and to analyse ethical issues.
